Ombres d'hiver - Winter shadows

These photographs were taken during our short stay in Brittany this past December. While going for walks with Vlada I kept noticing beautiful and sometimes mildly strange shadows on houses, walls, fields of grass. This was winter with a lot of houses locked-up for the season, not a lot of clutter in their courtyards and of course no leaves on most trees, which made it easier for these light effects to form. In Spring and Summer, there are other things to notice. My favorite picture in this series is the shadow of a gnarly fig tree on a simple white house with its twin set of shuttered french doors (below).

Revisiting trips to the balkans - spring, summer 2008

With the end of the year approaching and temperatures in New York barely above freezing. I felt like revisiting the trips I took this year during Spring and Summer. Here is a selection of photos taken in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro during my visits.

NYC, Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Sunday in New York. This was the day of the New York City marathon. These pictures were taken at the 42nd street stop of the NYC subway, in the Conservatory Garden at the North-eastern end of Central Park, and at the Children's sculpture near the Cathedral Church of St John the Divine (Morningside Heights).

Sunday in New York

These pictures were taken on Sunday October 18, 2008, in Chelsea (9th avenue, 21st, 20th and 16th streets), Tribeca (Hudson street), Battery Park City and Hudson River Park (at Canal street). The rose is from the grounds of the Theological Seminary between 9th and 10th Avenues at 20th street. The Japanese anemones were in a courtyard garden in front of a brownstone on 20th street.
