Brooklyn Botanic Garden

These pictures were taken on April 14 2012 at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. We saw birds (robins, a cardinal), lots of trees in bloom (magnolia, crab apple, cherry, lilac, viburnum) and visited the green houses this time, as well as the bonsai museum and the vegetable garden. It was a little crowded but still, it was beautiful day!

PS: The wall of twigs behind which Sabina is hiding is part of an installation created by American artist Patrick Dougherty.

High Line (section 2)

The second section of the High Line opened on June 7th. It now extends the length of the park to twice its original length. These pictures were mostly taken on the new section going from 30th street to 21st street.

Wave Hill, Bronx, June 2010

Today for a change, no pictures of the High Line but from a public garden in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx called Wave Hill. You get there by taking a train at Grand Central Station. It is usually a serene place, even on Saturdays when entrance is free. It has amazing views of the Hudson River and of the New Jersey Palisades across the river. The garden is home to many birds and a few other critters (squirrels, chipmunks, frogs).

This was a hot spring day with lots of flowers in bloom including poppies, lavender, cotton lavender (yellow flowers at right), russian sage (petrovska) and clary sage. For the first time, we saw cardamom and galangal. That evening, Vlada and I went to see the latest film by Goran Paskaljevic ("Honeymoons"), which was playing at the Human Rights Watch Film Festival, and later that evening we went to the Blue Note to listen to a jazz band (Sveti) lead by the fantastic drummer Marko Djordjevic.

Sunday in New York

These pictures were taken on Sunday October 18, 2008, in Chelsea (9th avenue, 21st, 20th and 16th streets), Tribeca (Hudson street), Battery Park City and Hudson River Park (at Canal street). The rose is from the grounds of the Theological Seminary between 9th and 10th Avenues at 20th street. The Japanese anemones were in a courtyard garden in front of a brownstone on 20th street.
